One parting gift Jonathan gave Nigerians
was to reduce fuel to 87naira and as well engineer scarcity of the premium
spirit. Most filling stations in Alimosho Local Government sells fuel between
95naira and 105 while filling stations along ikorodu road and victoria island
complied with the 87naira. Even Sango is worst hit with high rates as far PMS
is concerned while some ends up selling air for you incase you don’t buy in
kegs. Filling Stations in Abeokuta also sells for 90naira while fuel filling
stations like NNPC,Abiola way and Fatgbems complied with the 87naira price.
In view of
this abnormality, what is the responsibility of the DPR,(Department of petroleum
resources)? According to DPR website, this outlines their functions. DPR has
the statutory responsibility of ensuring compliance to petroleum laws,
regulations and guidelines in the Oil and Gas Industry. The discharge of these
responsibilities involves monitoring of operations at drilling sites, producing
wells, production platforms and flowstations, crude oil export terminals,
refineries, storage depots, pump stations, retail outlets, any other locations
where petroleum is either stored or sold, and all pipelines carrying crude oil,
natural gas and petroleum products, while carrying out the following functions,
among others: Supervising all Petroleum Industry operations being carried out
under licences and leases in the country,
Monitoring the Petroleum Industry operations to ensure that are in line with national goals and aspirations including those relating to Flare down and Domestic Gas Supply Obligations, Ensuring that Health Safety& Environment regulations conform with national and international best oil field practice as well as maintaining records on petroleum industry operations, particularly on matters relating to petroleum reserves, production/exports, licences and leases.( https://dpr.gov.ng/index/functions-of-dpr/)

In that
case,President Buhari should ensure that DPR awake from sleep and ensure necessary compliance, the masses
are suffering.
