'LITTLE MESSI' AND THE THEORY OF
INSANITY By Tunde Kehinde
I woke up this morning and the memories of a Nigerian football player named Stanley Okoro raced into my ever busy mind. You probably dont know him because you dont pay attention to Nigerian football .Stanley
okoro is a Nigerian player that featured for heartland of owerri way back 2009 and was part of the under 17 football players that featured for Nigeria at the FIFA under 17 tournament hosted by Nigeria in the year 2009 .Stanley okoro was lightening fast, a couple of techniques in his armory and these earned him the sobriquet 'little messi'. By the end of the tournament, reports revealed that stanley was actually 29 years old and once again our cultural menace of celebrating mediocrity became a pondering subject in my mind. Why call a player whose age doubled a benchmark player(messi) little messi? at that time the real messi had won a fifa player of the year award.'Ti aba fi ogun odun pile were igba wo ni were na maja' is a yoruba aphorism that does not lend itself to easy interpretation but i gave it a trial given the
relevance of this discouse-The glow of insanity diminishes when the preparatory processes of insanity takes longer time than it takes the insane to bask in his insanity .I was pondering if you are little messi at 29 when will you be real messi? two people cannot be suckers in the social exchange of lies, Stanley okoro where at thou?
